Goldilocks Zone Series
Earth the Blue Planet in the Goldilocks Zone, an area in our solar system where life exists solely because water can exist in a liquid state. Water is the essence of our survival, required by all known life. Yet perhaps because of its ubiquitousness, contemporary water is in a precarious condition. Instead of looking at bodies of water, these works examine individual drops as a metaphor for the lack of unity, a global unity that is imperative, in the pursuit of solutions to the many environmental issues facing water.
This water paintings are part of a series that uses liquid condensation in nature to paint on recycled hydrophobic materials from my studio. Droplets gather over the surface but instead of being absorbed by the surface the 3Dimensional drops remain intact, highlighting the surface, and revealing abstract landscapes. The transparent, mirror surface of each droplet creates lines across its convex meniscus orb, bending, reflecting, morphing each drop into its own miniature world of contemplation. Due to the ephemeral and temporary nature of this artwork an installation photograph is all that survives.
